With custom-made mallets you choose every part yourself: the amount, the handle, its length and thickness, the yarn colour and, for each of the mallets, the head and its hardness. The combinations give you mallets that fit your music.
Heads

- Model 2 (M2) is a standard marimba head with very good balance. It is also used for heavy vibraphone mallets.
- Model 3 (M3) was first designed as a large xylophone head. Wrapped in yarn, it takes a fine bullet-like shape. It also suits dual tone well, and its round form keeps the porous material from changing the shape of the head too much.
- Model 4 (M4) is the largest and heaviest marimba head Pendim makes, mostly chosen with thicker handles. Many players use it for heavy, slow pieces, and some play everything with heavy mallets. If you have strong hands and like heavy mallets, this is your head.
- Absolute 2 (A2) sits exactly between Model 4 and Model 2: not as heavy as Model 4, not as light as Model 2. Many modern players prefer it.
Hardness
Soft, Medium Soft, Medium Soft+, Medium, Medium Hard, Hard, and dual tone: Soft to Medium, Medium Soft to Medium Hard, Medium to Hard.
Tell us what you need
In the box for the heads and hardness, also tell us what sound you are looking for and what you will play: anything that helps us understand you. If you are new to Pendim mallets, take time to get to know them before you choose.
Example: mallet 1 (left, bass) – Model 4, dual tone Medium Soft to Medium Hard; mallet 2 (left, middle) – Absolute 2, Medium; mallet 3 (right, middle) – Absolute 2, Medium; mallet 4 (right) – Absolute 2, Medium Hard. I play a lot of modern music and want different sounds in my set of four.
Short example: 1 – M4, dual tone Soft to Medium; 2, 3, 4 – M4, Medium. I need heavy, full-sounding mallets for slow classical pieces.
Good to know
- Rattan handles are at most 42 cm long: with rattan, a longer length gives you 42 cm.
